Experience the Serenity of Azat Reservoir

Azat Reservoir (also known as the Zovashen Reservoir) is located along the upper reaches of the Azat River in Ararat Province, bordering the Khosrov Forest State Reserve. Constructed in the 1970s to regulate irrigation and water supply, it has since become one of Armenia’s most picturesque bodies of water—nestled amidst dramatic cliffs and pristine wilderness.

Surrounded by protected nature and only a short drive from iconic landmarks like Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery, the reservoir offers a peaceful contrast to the cultural intensity of nearby sites. Its calm waters mirror the sky, the stones, and the soul of the mountains—making it a favorite spot for quiet contemplation, photography, and soulful pauses on the way to or from more well-known attractions.

At Ethnomatic, we don’t just stop here — we linger. Whether you sip herbal tea on a breezy overlook, take in the colors of dusk, or simply listen to the quiet, our tours turn this reservoir into a refuge of calm, offering travelers space to breathe, reflect, and feel Armenia in her rawest beauty.
